Students must meet the Department of Education’s entry requirements, including English language proficiency to enrol in a Victorian government school, see: Standard application – secondary school.
Students who meet the department’s entry requirements but not English language proficiency, may be able to enrol in the Mordialloc Intensive English Language Centre.
The College’s language centre delivers theme-based, integrated studies across the curriculum with the study of English as the foundation of all learning activities. Teaching-learning programs delivered in the language centre are informed and guided by experienced teaches and the English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum.
While studying at Mordialloc College’s language centre, students will receive support
to build their English language skills to transition to mainstream studies.
Subjects studied
Students in the language centre will participate in the following subjects:
- Integrated Studies (English and Humanities)
- The Language of Maths and Science
- Health and Physical Education
- Arts and Technology (Art and Food Technology)
- ILC Assembly and ILC Mentor program
Assessment
The language centre teachers design and deliver purposeful learning, teaching and assessment. Students participate in assessments
at the start and throughout their language centre studies to help them develop their skills, including through reflection and feedback.
Parents receive reports on academic progress throughout their child’s language centre and mainstream study enrolment.
Transitioning to the mainstream program
Mordialloc College has a strong commitment to supporting all students to achieve their personal best in moving into their chosen
future direction.
The language centre prepares students for their mainstream studies at Mordialloc College. Part of this preparation includes course
counselling, participation in mainstream student assemblies, allocation of a locker, pre-transition reflection activities, and
participation in school-wide co-curricular activities.
