School Council

School councils play an important role in Victorian government schools.

At Mordialloc College, our School Council:

  • Determines the general educational policy of the college within the guidelines issued by the Minister.
  • Exercises a general oversight of the buildings and grounds and ensures that they are kept in good order and condition.
  • Makes recommendations considered necessary for the improvement of buildings and grounds.
  • Ensure that all moneys coming into the hands of the School Council are expended for proper purposes.
  • Promote the image of the school including involvement in Open Night
  • Carries out any other necessary duties.

Our School Council is made up of Mordialloc College parents/guardians who take on the roles of the School Council President, Deputy School President and Treasurer. Alongside parents/guardians, School Council is comprised of students, and Department of Education employees including the Principal.

School Council members are actively involved in sub-committees that have oversight of Programs and Policies, Finance, and Facilities, as well as attendance at School Council meetings:

The School Council meets at 5:00pm on a Thursday, twice a term. (2026)

Elections happen by March each year and all Mordialloc College families can vote. If you are elected, you will be a council member for two years, and all members (except students) must have a valid Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) for the duration of their tenure.

The process:

  1. Mordialloc College announces the election in late February or early March. We will provide a form or other way to nominate.
  2. Complete the form and return to the Principal by the deadline.
  3. If there are more nominations than vacant positions, a vote will happen.
  4. The Principal will run the vote and announce the outcome.
